I have programmed many Harmony remote controls for clients, and they are wonderful.
They work by setting up activities like "Watch TV", "Watch DVD", etc. Selecting an activity automatically turns on the appropriate equipment, selects inputs and so on, so you don't have to worry about how your system is configured. The remote remembers which items are on and off, so when you switch to a new activity or turn the system off, the remote knows which items need to be turned on and off. Amazon has a new and refirbished 880s with free shipping. The prices flucuate quite a bit, but you can sometimes get the refurbished ones for $80 and the new ones for about $110. The retail price of this remote is $250, and it typically sells online in the $150 range. |

The Panasonic DMP-BD60 is a great low-cost Blu-ray player if you have a modern A/V receiver with HDMI inputs that can decode the new high definition audio formats.
It will produce a great 1080p image from Blu-ray movies, and it will make regular DVDs look much better than playing them on a standard DVD player. Right now Amazon has the DMP-BD60 available for under $250. Prices change often, so be sure to check for the current price. |
